Once again Delhi Development Authority has postponed the allotment of plots to the allottees of its DDA 1981 Rohini Housing Scheme in spite of Supreme Court orders.

In this regard, DDA has released a notice on Wednesday. In this notice, DDA said it needed a year to develop the sectors where the plots were to be allotted to nearly 14,500 people.

However, last year DDA had promised to give the allotment of these plots in semi-developed areas in other parts of the city because the allottees of Rohini 1981 Housing Scheme have been waiting for the past 36 years.

According to the information, DDA said that it was not possible as the Rohini land was acquired specially of that scheme.

As per the published notice statement, on account of certain acquisition/compensation issues raised by the villagers of Barwala, the work of providing basic amenities/services in sectors 34 (pocket C5, C6, and A4) 35, 36, 37 and 38 was held up. Consequent to the Supreme Court’s direction, the development work of these sectors has since been recommended and would take a year to get completed.

According to the allottees of the scheme, DDA is misleading them. However, DDA had promised to give possessions of plots in July 2016, but have failed to develop the areas. Besides, DDA still fails to complete the basic infrastructure of most sectors where plots are to be allotted.

However, the scheme was launched in 1981 for the allotment of residential plots to the 25,500 people. The draw of lots was announced in 2012. Of these, 11,000 were allotted plots in 2015. The Supreme Court had asked DDA to allot plots to the remaining 14,500 by July 31, 2016.

An official said that the DDA had acquired land in sectors 34, 35, 36, 37 and 38 in 2006-07, but couldn’t be developed due to resistance from Barwala villagers.

During the wait of 36 years, several original allottees have passed away and the remaining ones are senior citizens. But the question is same, how long people have to wait for allotment.
