DDA to Follow PMAY Norms in New Constructions
DDA (Delhi Development Authority) has taken a decision of fixing the uniformity in the construction standards of residential flats in the national capital. J.P Aggarwal, the Principal commissioner (land and housing) of DDA informed that the carpet area of all new construction from now on will be as per the specification prescribed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
According to PMAY norms, here are the new sizes of which the residential flats of different categories will be constructed.
- EWS Category flat – up to 30 square metres (sqm)
- LIG Category flats – 40-60 sqm carpet area.
- MIG Category Flats – up to 110 sqm
- HIG Category Flats – above 130 sqm
The decision to follow the PMAY norms was taken after the DDA faced criticism for offering smaller sized LIG flats in the 2014 housing scheme. More than 10,000 buyers had surrendered their units because due to the small size of the flats. The allottees alleged that the Authority sold Janta or EWS flats as LIG flats after making slight changes in design and construction.
Besides this, Commissioner JP Agarwal admitted that one of the two rooms of LIG flats offered in the last scheme was small.
He added that even after three years, the authority is still receiving applications requesting cancellation of allotment. Every day, I sign 40-50 files seeking approval for cancellation of allotment. To avoid a similar situation in future, the DDA will stick to the PMAY norms from now on.
